Tea time at Les Heures – Le Prince de Galles

After a break from testing pastries in Paris I’m back in the game! A week ago I checked out the bar Les Heures inside the palace hotel Prince de Galles. The bar is the “casual” dining place of the hotel and where the afternoon tea happens. I took the “French tea time / thé a la française” which consists of a hot drink, a pastry of choice and a selection of cakes for €32. Read more…

I’m not even sure what school week we are in. I tried to count, and apparently it’s week 10 already Ö …  Somehow time flies very very hard and I lost track of everything that’s been happening. I even forgot to take pictures of some things. But now I gathered all the photo’s I have, so this post is for me to keep track too.

We did viennoiserie, choux and entremet and a week of random things like croissant d’amande, polonaise and some things I forgot and don’t have pictures of. (not worth memorizing I think)2014-03-10 13.13.09 2014-03-12 17.21.57

It’s been a while. A lot has happened since my last post in May. From May to July I had to focus on my last period of university. Oh well at least I graduated from the Delft University of Technology for my Bachelor of Science Industrial Design Engineering! Hurrayy Read more…

Easter chocolate cupcakes

I don’t regularly eat and make cupcakes as I don’t like buttercream frostings. But for this occasion I made cupcakes! My way. This is a super chocolat-y chocolate cupcake with pieces of chocolate inside, chocolate ganache and chocolate easter eggs on top. Yes, I like chocolate.

Coffee mousse

I wanted mousse, coffee mousse, so I made it. I found a recipe online that looked awesome, so I tried it. The mousse was very nice and I really enjoyed eating it. The only downside of making this is that you have to be somewhat patient, but it was worth it! So do try.

Simple scones

I was craving scones for a long time, for months.. or years. I don’t know why I have not made them earlier?! They are so damn easy. I always thought they were difficult, like croissant difficulty. So recently around midnight, I just wanted to eat them so badly. I looked for recipes online and found one that had been made by over 600 people. I decided that I was going to make them the next morning. And I did.

Chocolate chip mug cake made with pancake mix

Okay, I was happy with the previous mug cake recipe I put on here. But oh boy, I will probably never make that again! This new recipe needs 5 ingredients less than that one and is way less messy. These cakes are yummy. I have made 9 of these mug cakes in 5 days, which is a lot, I know. I didn’t eat them all. I swear.

Swiss roll with chocolate filling

Swiss roll cakes are very common in chinese bakeries, but I don’t like those most of the time. The cake is plain cake and the filling is butter cream. I’m not a fan of butter cream, I think it ‘s too heavy. Other than in chinese bakeries, I don’t see swiss rolls in stores or bakeries here.

French madeleine cakes

My mom’s birthday was last Saturday, she once mentioned she wanted madeleine cakes. She couldn’t find the special baking pan, as madeleines would not be madeleines without the shell-like shape. As I was shopping in the Hague, I went to DOK and found the baking pan. I bought it and also a dopper water bottle as her birthday present. She was very happy with both :)

Now it was time to make the madeleine cakes, my mom found a recipe on These were very nice, I ate three within a short amount of time. Which is okay, they are small, do not contain a lot of fat and will dry out quickly.
