Weekend tastings: Pastry tour

I had a little “pastry tour” with a wonderful blogreader – Hey Samantha!! ^^ – and my new flatmate (+ sister later)! We started off with Mori Yoshida, proceeded to Rue du Bac where La Patisserie des Reves, des Gateaux et du Pain and Angelina are located. After that we went to Sadaharu Aoki near Jardin du Luxembourg and to Samantha’s place for the degustation.

Week #UNKNOWN

I’m not even sure what school week we are in. I tried to count, and apparently it’s week 10 already Ö …  Somehow time flies very very hard and I lost track of everything that’s been happening. I even forgot to take pictures of some things. But now I gathered all the photo’s I have, so this post is for me to keep track too.

We did viennoiserie, choux and entremet and a week of random things like croissant d’amande, polonaise and some things I forgot and don’t have pictures of. (not worth memorizing I think)2014-03-10 13.13.09 2014-03-12 17.21.57

Weekend Tasting: Speciality Shops

In France you get your baguette at a boulangerie, your cheese at a crèmerie, your fish at the poissonnerie etcetera etcetera. Now there are also shops specialized in one type of pastry. This week we tried eclairs from L’Éclair de Genie, chocolates from Le Chocolat, choux from Odette, angel cakes/chiffon cakes from Ciel and merveilleux from Aux Merveilleux.
Our weekend tasting started early this week: friday afternoon at Christoph Adam’s L’Éclair de Genie. Here we bought the pistache orange, praliné noisette, passion-framboise  and rouge framboise / chocolate raspberry. These eclairs were yummy! They were all not too sweet. The passion framboise was my favorite of the four. The eclairs cost €5 ~ €5,50 a piece.

After L’Éclair de Genie we made our way to Lenôtre and the macaron lover classmate got these two macarons. Chocolat Poire and Jasmin. The Jasmin was uber sweet. I do not recommend. Get the one from Pierre Hermé instead! That one is good. The chocolat poire was okay.

So after Lenôtre we got some chocolats at La Manufacture de Chocolat by Alain Ducasse. We only got 4 (everyone picked just 1) because these chocolates are expensive! They are €2 a piece, but since we wanted to know how good they really are we bought some to test. Verdict: Really good chocolate. I had the Café chocolate and it had a really intense coffee flavor. Normally coffee chocolate tastes like chocolate with sugary coffee.. This one tasted like chocolate and espresso. Yummm. The others were happy with their chocolate too. One of them got Thé et Citron (tea and lemon) but the citron wasn’t really noticeable she said.

Mini coffee eclairs

L’eclair au café de Christophe Adam!

A couple of months ago I started to gain interest for this book of Christophe Adam called Eclairs!, it was only available in French (my French is still very poor) and I would have to order it from abroad with high shipping costs. So I procrastinated and never ordered.

To my surprise I saw the book is now available in Dutch! (yep, my main language) I went to the store and bought it immediately. These are the first eclairs I have made from this book and I’m sure many more will follow. ^^

These are mini eclairs, they are 6cm long, filled with coffee pastry cream, glazed with coffee glaze and decorated with a chocolate coffee bean.

Currently I’m busy with work and saving money so I can attend a pastry course in Paris. It is very expensive so for those who would like to help me, I made you a button. You can find it in the sidebar! I’m not really expecting anyone to help me, but it doesn’t hurt to ask right?

Thanks for reading my blog and I will try to post more :) -can’t guarantee it will actually happen-
